Let’s Talk Cellphones!
We all have them, and we all fall into the same posture when we use them… hunched over, head down, completely zoned out from the rest of the world. Excessive cellphone use may cause a whole host of issues including sleep disturbances, eye strain, physical discomfort (like neck pain), long-term postural changes, and it is even linked to mental health concerns like depression and anxiety. No matter the age, sometimes we need to learn how to turn it off for a while.
However, cellphones aren’t going anywhere, so do yourself, and your chiropractor, a favor and try out these tips for maintaining good posture while watching your Instagram reels!
1. Keep your head high!
Instead of bringing your head to your phone, slouching over and reducing our natural cervical curve, try bringing your phone up to you.
2. Hold your phone at eye level.
This goes hand and hand with keeping your head high. Try to keep your phone at eye level to help encourage good posture and a healthy cervical curve. If your arms get tired, try propping your elbows on a pillow that is sitting on your lap. You can even lean your elbows on your knees, bending forward at the waist, to keep a better posture.
3. Flatten your feet on the ground - No crossed legs!
Uncrossing our legs can help encourage better posture by evening out our hips to create a strong foundation for the rest of our spine.
4. Use two hands.
Holding your phone with both hands will make the previous posture tips much more attainable.
5. TURN IT OFF!
Sometimes the best thing you can do is to give your body and brain a break!
